The comunity of Letterston is centred on the village of that name, which in turn is centred on an important junction of two ancient trade routes.

Letterston also became a focus of the north Pembrokeshire railway network, with lines to Haverfordwest, Rosebush and – later – Trecwn converging at Letterston Junction to the north of the village.
